Community guidelines

Last updated 1 November 2026

Nextroom works when people are honest about what they’re building, generous with what they know, and respectful of each other’s time. These guidelines apply to profiles, posts, comments, introductions and messages.

What we ask of everyone

  • Be specific about what you’re working on and what would help.
  • Give honest feedback, and give it kindly.
  • Make introductions personal. Say why you want to talk and what you’re asking for.
  • Respect a no. If someone doesn’t accept your introduction, move on.

What isn’t allowed

  • Harassing, threatening, demeaning or discriminating against anyone.
  • Spam, including copy-and-paste or mass introductions, repeated posts and unsolicited sales pitches.
  • Scams and deception, including fake identities, false claims about yourself or your business, and asking people for money, passwords or personal details.
  • Asking for or offering investment, such as shares, loans, crowdfunding or crypto-assets, or promoting financial products.
  • Sharing someone else’s personal information without their permission, including screenshots of private messages.
  • Anything illegal, sexual, violent or hateful, or anything that encourages self-harm.
  • Supporting terrorism, or using Nextroom for or on behalf of a banned (proscribed) organisation. We close these accounts.
  • Using Nextroom if you’re under 18, or having more than one account.

Profile photos

A photo is optional. If you add one, it should be:

  • you, or your business’s logo
  • something you have the right to use

Don’t use a photo of anyone else without their permission, or one that is sexual, violent, hateful, shows a child, or advertises something. We’ll remove photos that break these rules, and may suspend the account if it happens again.

Reporting a problem

Use Report on any profile, post, comment or message and choose a reason: spam, harassment, inappropriate, scam or other. A member of the Nextroom team reviews every report. The person you report isn’t told who reported them.

You can also block someone. You’ll be hidden from each other everywhere on Nextroom, and any conversation between you closes.

If you’re not a member, or can’t use the Report button, email us. The contact and complaints page explains how.

If you think a member is under 18, report their profile. Nextroom is only for adults, and we’ll look into it the same day.

If you think someone is in immediate danger, call 999 in the UK, or your local emergency number.

What happens when the guidelines are broken

Depending on what happened, we may:

  • hide a post, comment or message
  • remove a profile photo
  • suspend an account, which stops it posting, commenting, messaging or sending introductions
  • close an account

If we act on your content or account and you think we got it wrong, you can appeal. See the contact and complaints page for how, and how quickly we’ll reply.
